A faithful to Ishgard and a member of its Inquisition, Brother Rodrique is a stoic man that holds steadfast to his principles. Being foreign to the land, however, he holds a unique perspective on what constitutes as "heresy" when compared to his brothers and sisters, and as such he has been found to have a far gentler touch during his investigations.Has you run into this inquisitor during your time in Coerthas? Or do you vaguely recall someone that looked similar to him back down in Thanalan? Whatever the case may be, there are many means to have met Brother Rodrique, and perhaps these are some of them.

The Fury's Gaze

◈ Not much is openly known about Rodrique's past other than that he likely hails from Thanalan. A stranger in a strange land, many were taken by surprise that this amnesiac wanderer found himself taken in by the priests of Saint Reymanaud's Cathedral and ultimately sent through Saint Endalim's Scholasticate for further instruction on Halonic Doctrine.◈ In time, Rodrique found himself quite adept at holy work, especially so when it came to investigative matters. As such, he found himself trained under the watchful eye of Ishgard's inquisition, and in time was he inducted as an inquisitor in his own right.◈ When the drums of war sounded again and Nidhogg's brood assailing the Holy See on every front, the priest found himself split between his duties as an inquisitor and his role as a priest of Halone. Though both duties were, ultimately, one in the same, Rodrique took it upon himself to aid those he believed wrongly accused of heresy; that the enemy within was, in the good majority of cases, entirely imagined and fueled by pointless paranoia. This would gain Brother Rodrique the ire of many a veteran inquisitor who, in their belief, were being questioned by a foreigner who did not truly understand the dire threat the Holy See faced. Such would be counterbalanced, however, by the fact that many who Rodrique defend were, in fact, entirely innocent or were investigated under false cause.◈ After the war finally came to an end and the inquisition and church as a whole found themselves with waning power, Brother Rodrique continued to act as he always had: a voice for the ill-accused and a mender for those in need. Any hate spat his way is seemingly ignored, and nary an insult seems to phase the stoic priest as he goes about his duties.

Secrets Untold

Tale of a Thaumaturge

◈ Before his time as a priest of Halone, Rodrique was known by the name Tristan Covenant. Orphaned in Ul'dah, he found himself raised in the underbelly of city by a disgraced Lalafellin thaumature, Jujuno Juno Treated more as a protege than an actual adoptive child, Tristan found himself slowly trained in the esoteric arts of thaumaturgy.◈ As Tristan grew, Jujuno began to send the Hyur on numerous expeditions across Eorzea to collect various occult trinkets; each seemingly part of some set that would see one's aether amplified beyond belief. Treacherous as these ventures were, Tristan proved adept at both his magickal skills and at claiming these lost artifacts, though many of these tasks had left him thieving said relics from collectors abroad.◈ Eventually, Jujuna found herself introducing Tristan to her other students, and eventually did they all find themselves scheming together to aid in their master's ambitions. Of them all, Tristan proved to understand the finer details of thaumaturgy the most, and soon did he find himself at the head of this band of thieving wizards.◈ With only one piece remaining in this collection of aether-enhancing relics, Jujuno sent the band of thieving thaumaturges off to Coerthas to raid a minor noble house's manor. Seeking to claim an ancient staff allegedly wielded by a black mage of eld, the wizards waited until nightfall to enact their plan.◈ By all accounts, the plan went off without a hitch and the thaumaturge's made it to the vault containing the staff with relative ease and escaped with the relic unnoticed by any of the manor's patrols. While traveling through Coerthas, however, chaos struck and the green and treachery of the Ul'dahn organization finally revealed itself.Having found themselves nearing the infamous Witchdrop, the other thaumaturges set upon Tristan with the full force of their spells. Though able to hold them off for some time, Tristan ultimately found himself overwhelmed and had the ancient staff unceremoniously taken from him.◈ There, in one final bout of betrayal, the other thaumaturges cast Tristan into the depths of Witchdrop, unknowing and uncaring of the location's meaning. Presumed dead, the band of wizards made their way back to Ul'dah, leaving Tristan to his fate in the pit below. In two day's time, however, had fate finally found itself favoring Tristan. Following up on reports of uncontrolled spells being cast about wildly, the Holy See dispatched a handful of knights to investigate around Witchdrop. Here, Tristan found himself rescued by two knights in particular -- Ser Vallienne and Ser Julinaux, both noble souls of Ishgard who saw the fallen Hyur brought to Ishgardian chirurgeons for proper medical treatment.◈ Thanks to the aid of Ishgard's knights, Tristan recovered in time, though he told not the true tale of his origin early on. Instead, he found himself adopted Ishgardian culture as his own and took up the name Rodrique Vauquelin, and from henceforth did he commit to using his skills for something good.

An Inquisitor's Duty

◈ The Dragonsong War saw much depravity enacted on those of the Holy See, yet no situations were worse than when horrendous heretics forced dragon's blood upon knight of the realm. It was Brother Rodrique's duty to root out heresy wherever it may appear, and though he would continue his duties as an inquisitor to the best of his ability, he found himself at an impasse when tales of Ser Vallienne's draconic corruption were brought before the inquisiton.◈ A Ser Ardois Lambert, attempted to accuse Vallienne of heresy following her presumed death, though Rodrique was disinclined to believe such accusations against one who had saved him from certain death. Before he could act, however, Ser Julinaux, another knight to which he owed a debt to, pleaded with the priest to aid in defending Ser Vallienne as best as he could.◈ Faced with a crisis of faith and duty, Rodrique found himself unable to proceed at first. However, his debt to the knights proved stronger in the end, and with righteous word did the inquisitor go about undermining and discrediting Ser Ardois -- an action that would ultimately have his accusations of heresy tossed aside and lead to him leaving Ishgard in disgrace.
